Venezuela National Electoral Council names Maduro President

Nicolás Maduro, the United Socialist Party candidate has been declared the winner by the National Electoral Council (CNE) against opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez after Maria Corina Machado was barred from running.Â
The CNE says that Maduro secured 51.2% of the vote and Gonzalez only 44.2%.Â
However, Gonzalez’s tallies with 73% counted, show that Gonzalez had won 6 million votes with Maduro securing only 2.7 million votes. Â
Gonzalez believes that the election process had been tampered with.Â
Witnesses were not allowed inside the CNE to overlook the vote processing. Only a few election observers were allowed at the polling stations. Some polling centers were locked. Some centers sent out data to be counted before all the votes had been processed.
